The Daviess County Public Library’s Winter Reading Program is back, and registration is open now through Jan. 31. Participants can log their reading hours and be entered into drawings and for prizes in each age category.

Prize drawings will occur weekly for all age categories. For each hour spent reading, the participant’s name will be entered into a grand prize drawing.

Additionally, at the end of the program the participant in each age category with the most reading minutes will get a special prize.

Age categories include: 0-5, 6-8, Ages 9-12, 13-18, and adults.

Prizes include children’s games, literary-themed gift baskets, and movie night baskets. The grand prize for both age groups 6-8 and 9-12 is a Nintendo Switch Lite.

“We have a lot of questions about what counts as reading,” said Tiffani Henry, Public Relations Coordinator. “Earning hours is easy, simply read. Read a book, a magazine, a blog, even a newspaper counts. We also count audio books, so if you love to listen to books, those count too.”

The Library itself will also be in a contest from Jan. 1-31. DCPLS will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Book Like Us,” sponsored by Simon and Schuster.

The Library challenges patrons to read and keep track of their reading on the DCPL Beanstack site at dcplibrary.beanstack.org/reader365

Thousands of libraries and schools across the nation will encourage their communities to read a target number of minutes and books. Prizes for the libraries and schools will include book collections and virtual author visits. Ten winning schools or libraries will each get a collection of 50 books from the “Books Like Us” collection.
