The Kentucky Wesleyan Singers will present the college’s 10th annual Festival of Lessons & Carols virtually on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. on Facebook Premiere.

Students will read the biblical lessons of prophecy and the birth of Christ, and carols will be sung in response to the readings. The broadcast will be filmed at St. Stephen Cathedral and Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church.

Associate Professor of Music Dennis Jewett will direct the Wesleyan Singers. James Wells, director of music at St. Stephen Cathedral and adjunct professor of music at KWC, will provide accompaniment. KWC adjunct professor of music Paula Humphreys is the guest artist. She is a flutist with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.

“Celebrating traditions and important rituals of the year is always important but especially so this year,” Jewett said. “For many in our city, Lessons and Carols is the beloved beginning of the Christmas season, and we are thrilled to present the festival again this year.”

Jewett said the students have given great effort to preserving this tradition.

“They have rehearsed and sung with masks all year,” he said. “Full rehearsals are only once a week and must be shortened for safety. It is a tribute to them and to our college that we are able to present this year’s Festival of Lessons and Carols.”

Donations for the program are suggested though not required to view the performance. Details on the live stream, as well as a donation form, are available here.
