Editor’s Note: Owensboro Times has partnered with some local organizations to provide a look back at 2020 and a look ahead to 2021. Today’s messages is submitted by the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club.

We are still operating and providing services. This, however, has certainly been a year like no other.

Because of the pandemic, we cancelled our annual “Men Who Cook” event in April, the summer “Steak and Burger” event, the fall Indiana annual golf outing, and “Eating out for Kids” in November — all of which provide the Club with operating funds.

And we found a silver lining to all of it. We provided food to all our families in all our locations each week during the summer, as well as virtual programming to all our members.

Even though the Club closed in March when the schools did, we opened the Mike Horn Unit in September as a Learning Center to help kids (and parents) attend school virtually. The Rockport Extension, the Henderson Unit, and the Butler County Unit were able to open for regular afternoon hours.

The Annual December auction was done online for the first year and was a success.

In 2021 we will continue with our online events, will open the Ohio County Unit in August 2021 in Hartford, and move the Henderson Unit into a larger building.

There are so many people who have helped us, and we would like to thank the Ragu Foundation, the United Way of the Ohio Valley, Green River Area Community Foundation, and our loyal contributors for their support.

Our hope is that kids can soon return to school and the Club full time.

We continue with our daily operations with the help of so many to remain true to our mission and reach the ones who need us the most.
