More than 1,300 Owensboro Public Schools students got the surprise of seeing Santa and Mrs. Claus when the duo virtually stopped by their Google Meet classes Friday.

While the two were “heartbroken” they couldn’t see the students in person, they were still excited to drop into 56 classrooms.

“We’ve made this our ministry for many years and we have never missed a year of seeing of our children,” Mrs. Claus said. “We were really heartbroken that we couldn’t see our kids this year. This is a great way for us to see the kids and it was a safe way.”

The duo said this was not a job to them, but a ministry.

“By their expressions, it seems to have meant a lot to them (the students),” Mrs. Claus said. “Teachers are exhausted, they have worked really hard. They have done an amazing job. The students have stepped up and done an amazing job. From what we’ve been given, I’m very proud of OPS and what they have done.”

Santa said he and his elves have been working hard at the North Pole so there are lots of presents for everyone.

“We want to make sure all the kids have presents under the tree for Christmas Day,” he said.
