Bridget Reid wears many hats — marketing director of Independence Bank, mother of four, and most recently, the creator of the podcast Bloom with Bridget. After her first episode debuted earlier this month, Reid said the feedback has been positive and represents the example she hopes to set for her daughters.

“I had this idea to start a podcast last year; it was something I always wanted to do,” she said. “I started listening to podcasts and thinking about which ones I liked, which ones I didn’t like, which direction I wanted to take. I originally thought about doing one for the bank but I knew it was time to do something for myself that I could share with my girls.”

What started as just a dream a year ago was propelled into action following the demands of a pandemic and the changing of priorities for families. With no parties or birthdays, and being granted more time with her family, Reid said she wanted to be more present in the moment.

Bloom has been a story about my journey and my process,” she said. “Last year I realized with all things COVID-related and slowing down, I was actually still missing a lot. I started learning things about myself, blooming on my own. Things weren’t important that I thought were important.”

As a student at the Women’s School, Reid said she had an assignment to write down her dreams. Before, she would brainstorm dreams for her marriage or for her kids — but this time was more personal. The podcast was something that made her list.

When creating the name for her podcast, Reid chose Bloom to illustrate the idea of being fully present in the moment or “Bloom where you are planted.” Reid commissioned local artist Kelly McClelland to design her logo.

“Our Bloom logo contains four flowers — one for each of my girls who picked their favorite color for the flower. The vase is purple — my favorite color — and my husband is the stem holding up my girls with his favorite color blue,” Reid said.

Reid’s first episode mentioned how she always wanted to swim with dolphins. When this dream came to fruition a few months later, she was able to take two of her daughters with her.

“When you have kids, you want them to see you going after it and doing bold things, putting in the effort and doing the work,” Reid said. “My girls said they were so glad they got to do my dream with me. They want to emulate us, and I want them to see me going after it because I want the same for them.”

Reid also believes it is important to encourage women to find balance in life.

“As women, we are never given instruction on how to be a mom, a wife. We are not really guided on what to do. We are judged and criticized,” she said. “When you look for the negative that’s what you’ll find. I want to see good; I’m proud of this.”

Through her podcast, Reid hopes to create an impact and leave a legacy through words of wisdom and advice for her girls — ages 11, 9, 5 and 3 — to hear one day.

“I have to think about who I want to impact the most, what’s the most important to me,” she said. “If there’s an opportunity to bless someone in the process then that’s a bonus. There is certainly more to come and growth in the future, we are just getting started.”

Weekly episodes release every Monday and are available on Apple Podcast and Spotify platforms.
