A free COVID-19 vaccine clinic for anyone 18 and older will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at the Dugan Best Recreational Center.

The clinic is possible through a partnership between Truth Outreach, Inc., Owensboro Health and WellCare.

Appointments must be made by calling 270-925-7443. The deadline to make an appointment is 12 p.m. today.

Michael Johnson, president of Truth Outreach, Inc. said this event is an opportunity for anyone who hasn’t yet been vaccinated to protect themselves and their community.

“We see COVID-19 still running rampant,” Johnson said. “.. and it’s because there’s so many who haven’t gotten vaccinated yet.”

The only way to reach herd immunity, Johnson said, was by getting as many vaccinations into arms as possible.

“We want to be able to get as many people as we can vaccinated,” he said. “It was wonderful to be able to sit down with my family this Easter holiday, and be able to eat a nice meal together. Because we were all vaccinated, we were able to do that.”

Members of Truth Outreach spent Tuesday in the Dugan Best neighborhood talking about the importance and safety of vaccinations.

“We know this vaccine saves lives,” Johnson said. “We’re advocates of the vaccine, and we’re going to continue to be until this pandemic is over.”
