Owensboro Community and Technical College has named their own Sharmy Davis as Director of Diversity after a national search.

The position is responsible for creating a campus environment that values the exploration and appreciation of diversity while promoting inclusiveness and global awareness.

Davis began her career at OCTC in 2019 and previously served as Success Coach for students focusing on the Associates in Arts, Science and Fine Arts programs. She also worked for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

Davis is a graduate of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Davis earned a Master in Public Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master in Business Administration degree from Midway University.

Davis was recently accepted into the doctoral program at the University of Kentucky, where she will study Educational Leadership.

“Our pool of candidates was incredible, and we are thrilled to have Ms. Davis in this new role,” said OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams. “Sharmy has the experience, talent, work ethic, and passion to continue advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion on and off campus.”

Davis serves on OCTC’s ad hoc committee for Cultural Competency and the Strategic Enrollment Management Team. She was also instrumental in developing the details for the new ACE mentoring program, a partnership with the Owensboro Black Expo.

“We’re so excited to have Sharmy on board in this new role,” said Bernie Hale, public relations director at OCTC. “She’s a great fit on campus and in the community.”
