The Owensboro YMCA will host their 13th annual Young Leaders Luncheon on Aug. 12 in the gymnasium at their Kentucky Parkway location. The longstanding event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with most of the proceeds benefitting members who need financial assistance.

The event exists to recognize local high school seniors who possess outstanding integrity, excellence, and a passion for making a difference. This year’s title sponsor is Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, which, according to their CEO Jimmy Staton, shares the same values as the YMCA.

“Promoting, developing, and fostering today’s youth is a focus for Southern Star,” Staton said. “These students are our future community leaders — we are excited to be the title sponsor for this year’s Young Leaders Luncheon.”

According to a release, the YMCA allows the business community to connect with these young leaders and award scholarships to two worthy recipients.

“If you want to be inspired, we suggest you join us to celebrate the incredible applicants who have just graduated from high school and plan to take on the world,” YMCA CEO John Alexander said.

There were 11 applicants for the two $1,000 scholarships. In addition to awarding scholarships, YMCA Trustee and Co-founder of the Malcolm Bryant Corporation will deliver a keynote address. Staton will follow him.

“Bryant will be speaking about the importance of mentoring young people in our area to grow strong leaders in our community,” said YMCA Director of Operations Kristi Harrison.

There are nine tables still available for purchase.

“We would be thrilled to pieces to sell this out on behalf of the ‘Y’ and the members of the community,” Harrison said. “We redirected all of our attention to essential child care and focused our operational efforts on becoming community activists during the pandemic; that hindered our fundraising efforts.”

Due to restrictions, last year’s event featured 80 attendees; Harrison is hoping for 240 this year. Gold Scholarship Sponsorships are available for $2,500 and include 12 seats, while a Silver Table Sponsorship at $1,000 comes with six chairs. Single seats are also available for $125.

To reserve a table or purchase an individual seat, contact Harrison by phone at 270-663-8203 or email at [email protected].
