The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum on Tuesday unveiled an LED video wall on the front of their building, with plans to highlight upcoming concerts, programs, and festivals produced by the cultural center.

The LED video wall, which was built into the wall facing the intersection of Frederica and 2nd streets, offers a sneak peek to those who are curious about all the programs, events, and concerts hosted by the Hall of Fame.

“The video wall is designed to compel people to come through our doors to experience the music and programming firsthand,” said Chris Joslin, Executive Director of the Hall of Fame. “One possible alternative for the space was a cut steel version of our logo, but we felt the video wall was much more dynamic and a better resource for conveying the energy around the music.”

Joslin said the project goes much deeper than simple announcements, though.

“The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum is part of a larger economic strategy centered upon tourism, and we are seeing this strategy pay off for both the Hall of Fame and for our community,” Joslin said. “We are so fortunate that business partners like Southern Star recognize the value of linking Owensboro’s identity to bluegrass music. Content on the video wall will highlight our partnership with Southern Star thanking them for making this possible.”

Plans for the LED video wall were delayed in early 2020 when the pandemic forced the Hall of Fame to pause ticketed events and other programming due to mandated capacity limitations. However, the project was placed on hold rather than completely scrapped. As a result, the detailed plan was easily reactivated when Southern Star decided to get involved with the project several months ago.

Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline donated the video wall to show their support for the work of the non-profit and to signal to the community that they believe in the power of cultural tourism in Owensboro and Daviess County.

“Southern Star proudly stands with our community in celebrating our area’s bluegrass heritage,” said Jimmy Staton, President & CEO of Southern Star. “The arts and cultural tourism draw so many to Owensboro and Daviess County, while enhancing the quality of life for those who call it home. We are honored to underwrite the new LED Video Wall in support of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum.”

The electronic sign was completed just in time for ROMP Festival, as the Hall of Fame welcomes people to Owensboro next week for one of the area’s largest annual events. A full slate of programming in the Hall of Fame’s theater is also planned for this fall, and those details will soon be added to the rotating content displayed on the video wall.

“This LED video wall is very high-density, so we plan to highlight performance clips and other videos that will translate well to the big screen,” Joslin said. “Declaring that Owensboro is the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World is one thing, but adding this important feature to our building conveys to everyone that we are living out this claim in creative, tangible ways.”
