Starting Sept. 9, Lure Seafood and Grille will begin a fundraising campaign for the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum by selling four collectible whiskey bottles with special ROMP labels.
Lure owner Ben Skiadas said that helping his neighbors at the Hall of Fame was something that was a natural fit. Skiadas added that the best way to raise money would be to use the love of bourbon in the city.
“Bourbon is a very hot ticket item. There’s a lot of collectors, especially here in Kentucky,” Skiadas said. “And COVID has made things a little tricky for nonprofits because they can’t do a lot of the same fundraising events they’ve done in the past.”
The project started about six months ago, when Skiadas said he found label sponsors that brought in $2,500. Skiadas said that Knob Creek, specifically Jim Beam, has signed on to help with the fundraiser.
There will be four different labels on the bottles each depicting a different instrument associated with the ROMP Festival including the violin, banjo, guitar, and mandolin. Each bottle will contain 750 milliliters of whiskey and be priced at $150.
Skiadas said the bottles will go on sale at the Lure on Sept. 9 in order to give Owensboro residents the opportunity to support their community before the festival starts on Sept. 15. Sales of the bottles will continue during the festival.
