An Owensboro couple is gaining popularity on TikTok. Their channel ‘stephandscott’ currently boasts nearly 197,000 followers and nearly 3 million likes. The couple, Scott and Stephanie Seiber, first made a video in November as a way to entertain themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We first downloaded TikTok because students from our church kept talking about it,” Stephanie said. “They thought we’d do really well if we posted videos. It was also 2020, so everyone was trying to find something to occupy their time and minds, right? It wasn’t until April of 2021 that our videos began to hit.”
Their videos often feature the couple lovingly poking fun at one another’s pet peeves. Their most popular video series “Things that Drive my Husband Crazy,” has received over 2.1 million views and features Stephanie doing things that annoy Scott, such as being a “backseat driver,” having the TV volume on an odd number, and playing Christmas music before Dec. 1.
The couple also enjoys making name brand vs. generic food challenge videos and satirical videos about the challenges of being a millennial.
“It’s been surreal,” Stephanie said. “I don’t think we truly thought they would get as big as they have. Our kids think it is cool. They like to watch [the videos] with us.”
Scott is a senior pastor and Stephanie serves alongside him at Walnut Memorial Baptist Church in Owensboro. Together, they have seven children and three dogs. Although they appreciate that viewers from all over the world have found joy in their videos, they did not start their TikTok channel with the intention of going viral or gaining “TikTok fame.”
“We’ve been recognized a few times… once someone asked for a picture and that was neat,” Stephanie said. “Our goal is to put out funny, clean, positive content. We want to make people smile, we want to be encouragers. There’s so much negativity everywhere. We want to be one place where people can laugh and feel loved. We want to be a light.”
