The 11th Annual Fall Tour of Homes hosted by the Home Builders Association of Owensboro begins today. Though there’s only six homes this year, officials said it’s still an opportunity for home shoppers to get plenty of ideas.

The tour is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday. Five of the houses this year are by Jagoe Homes and one is by Homes by Mattingly Construction Management.

Richard Stallings, HBAO executive officer, said there are various factors that led to the lower number of homes on this year’s tour.

“We’ve got a lot of strain on inventory, and there were delays in the process and supply chain,” Stallings said. “A shortage of labor was pretty impactful too. Building a home is very labor intensive.”

That doesn’t mean less homes are being built, though.

“Our members are building 28% more than usual,” Stallings said. “Already in 9 months this year they have as many permits as all of last year, and last year was really good.”

Stallings said even with fewer houses to view, he’s glad HBAO is able to provide the community with a chance to get ideas for their dream home.

“Compared to day-to-day real estate transactions, with custom building you get to put your personal touch on it,” he said. “The visitor can find some of the trends and see the different programs each builder offers.”
