The 2021 City of Owensboro Christmas card is now available for purchase at City Hall for $2. The card, titled “A Classic Christmas,” was commissioned by local artist Aaron Kizer and puts a new spin on a vintage Santa.
The card which pays homage to the Coca-Cola style that Kizer remembered from his childhood, is meshed with the background of the city’s logo of the Owensboro Bridge.
“That’s what I remember from being a kid, but I also wanted to incorporate the bridge in the background — not just the blue parts of the bridge, but some of the new LED lights and giving them a more 2021 feel to the old Santa Claus,” Kizer said.
Mayor Tom Watson said that the partnership with Kizer is something for which he is thankful. Watson also likes this design, as he said it reminds him of his childhood.
“When I was young, that’s what the Coca-Cola Santa Claus looked like on the Coca-Cola commercial,” Watson said. “You know Aaron’s got his own touch to it, but that’s what he brought back so tickled to death with it.”
