The Energy on Ice outdoor skating rink makes its return for the second weekend of the 12 Days Before Christmas, and City of Owensboro Director of Public Events Tim Ross is thankful for the turnout from opening weekend.
The rink, located behind the Convention Center on the Kentucky Legend Pier, overlooks the Ohio River and allows guests the opportunity to ice skate downtown.
While the ice is synthetic, Ross said that the weather is just right for the ice and for the atmosphere.
For the opening weekend, Ross said that the attendance was right where they expected it to be, and he looks forward to the crowds this weekend.
“It’s just a great amenity downtown to give some entertainment to folks to come out there for a little bit each weekend,” Ross said.
Mayor Tom Watson said that it is exciting to see the city come together and celebrate the holiday season, and he is appreciative of the work that Ross and the rest of the staff have put into this holiday season.
“It’s a whole lot better than last year. Everybody’s really excited,” Watson said. “The events folks, Tim Ross and Erica Pedley, did a real good job of putting together the 12 Days of Christmas.”
