The City of Owensboro is seeking public input regarding the allocation grant worth about $1 million dollars. The funding is to be used to help create affordable housing and services for the homeless, people at risk of homelessness, persons fleeing domestic violence and other vulnerable populations.

The money was made available through the Home Investment Partnerships Grant — American Rescue Plan funding.

Abby Shelton, Community Development Director, said while there are strict rules on where the funding can be used, the City wants public opinion on what to prioritize.

“How can we best combat homelessness? How can we address veterans’ housing issues?” Shelton asked as some examples.

Once the public input is collected, the recommendations will be presented to the City Commission for the final say on how the funds will be allocated.
