Hundreds of community members of all ages filled First Baptist Church on Thursday as they participated in the 71st Annual National Day of Prayer.

The event started with “A Circle of Good News” at 11:30 a.m, when attendees read aloud their pre-assigned verses from the Bible so that by the end of the 20 minutes the entire Bible had been read aloud.

The rest of the event will be a prayer/worship service featuring numerous church leaders. Those who want to watch a recording of the event can do so here.

After some songs of worship, the Owensboro High School Color Guard presented the colors, then Gold and Blue Star Parent Cathy Mullins led attendees in singing the National Anthem. Rick Rhodes served as emcee, and Pastor Nick Martin gave his testimony.

There were prayers from Pastor Greg Faulls (on church/repentance); the Roberto and Chaneirys Soriano family (on family); Drs. Mark and Shanna McGinnis (on healthcare/first responders); David Wells (on government); Gold and Blue Star Parent Tommy Mullins (on military); Carole MacQuarrie (on business); Kenny Flashpoehler (on education); and Dale McCubbins (on media).
