Krista Niehaus, Gina Stallings, and Shelly Payne have been hosting a first day of school breakfast for more than a decade.

“We thought it would be fun to kick the first day of school off with our kids right by getting them all together before school and eating breakfast as a group,” Niehaus said. “Our goal was to minimize the first day of school jitters by putting them around other kids who are feeling the same way.”

So, they invited several neighborhood kids and some of their closest friends. Each year the number of kids would multiply.

“As our kids have grown, some going to college, in the military, we have added new friends. My friend Gina now has her grandkids enjoying our back to school tradition,” Niehaus said.

Between the three moms, they have nine kids of their own. But for the first day breakfast, there would times where more than 20 kids would show up ranging from preschool age up to college students.

“We take pictures of the kids every year and it is so awesome to see how they’ve grown, changed and many times went separate ways,” Niehaus said. “But we always come back for this day and honestly pick up where they left off.”
