Sherry Baber has been named the new executive director for Goodfellows Club of Owensboro. Baber recently retired as the principal of Hager Preschool and has an extensive background in education working for the Owensboro Public Schools district.
Baber, who has also served on the board of directors for Goodfellows, will oversee the organization’s community support initiatives.
“I am so excited to be able to support the Goodfellows Club Board of Directors as they continue the ongoing efforts to raise funds to support the needs of the disadvantaged children throughout Owensboro and Daviess County,” Baber said. “I have a genuine love for children and families within our community and I have seen first-hand the significant impact Goodfellows has on the lives of so many students each year. It is an honor to be a part of such a strong community organization that continues to care for, and support, the needs of our children.”
The new executive director position was created through a grant from the Public Life Foundation of Owensboro.
“Ms. Baber’s background, coupled with her heart for our organization, will provide tremendous support toward fulfilling our mission,” said Stacy Edds-Ellis, Goodfellows Club board chair. “We are grateful to the Public Life Foundation for their support.”
The mission of the Goodfellows Club is to provide resources and services to assist in meeting physical, social, and psychological needs of schoolchildren at risk in Owensboro and Daviess County.
The Club was founded in 1911 and works directly with local school systems’ Family Resource Centers to meet the needs of over 2,000 students with gifts valued at over $100,000 annually.
One hundred percent of all donations to Goodfellows will continue to benefit the disadvantaged children of Owensboro and Daviess County.
