The Owensboro Family YMCA will be hosting open house events on Sept. 29 and 30 to allow the community tour the facility, see renderings of the potential merger with the Senior Center, and offer feedback.

John Alexander, YMCA President/CEO, said no plans have been finalized, and that the tour will allow officials to dispel any misinformation about the property and answer any lingering questions.

“We hope to shed light on the potential positive outcomes for the community,” Alexander said.

The tours on Sept. 29 will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., while the one on Sept. 30 will go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The YMCA is located at 900 Kentucky Parkway near Wesleyan Park Plaza.

Alexander noted the two organizations would need to complete a feasibility study before any designs are finalized and they decide how to move forward.

He said the Y also hopes to host a forum similar to the two held by the Senior Community Center, but dates have not been selected yet.

Alexander said those sessions were beneficial for officials to be able to hear the community’s concerns and discuss how to address them.

“The forums were good and allowed people to voice their opinions and ask questions and hear details,” he said. “I think we tried to emphasize that the proposals are not set in stone.”
