Accompanied by Santa and Mrs. Claus, live reindeer will be at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History this Saturday for what’s become an annual tradition.

The experience runs from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m.; admission is $5 for guests and free for museum members. Executive Director Kathy Olson said guests could expect a magical experience.

“This is our sixth year hosting the event, and we’re excited to have another opportunity to present this,” Olson said. “We have many patrons looking forward to it, and we are too.”

Olson said the day is always busy, especially this year with the Holiday Stroll returning to downtown Owensboro. As part of the Holiday Stroll, visitors can access additional activities and hear the community band perform at 2 p.m.

The museum will also have a membership table where guests can inquire about membership and join on site. Membership is available in-person at the museum or via its website.

With a new early childhood exhibit opening in January, Olson thinks visitors will be interested to hear the museum’s future plans. Guests can see illustrations and renderings of the new gallery, tour the museum, and hear future museum plans on Saturday.

The membership includes reciprocal free or reduced admission to more than 350 museums across the country through the ASTC program.

Atmos Energy is sponsoring this year’s live reindeer experience. Olson said that without them and the reindeer providers’ continued support, none of it would be possible.

“It will be an exciting day for us,” she said. “December is full of so many traditional activities, and we’re excited to create family experiences.”
