Friday After 5 (FA5) is hoping to bring back fun and excitement to the riverfront starting tonight with Christmas at the Inn. From 6 to 8 p.m. every Friday in December, the Holiday Inn Owensboro Riverfront will take the shape of a winter wonderland.
With real snow, Santa Claus, musical performances, and a gigantic igloo serving hot chocolate, visitors are in for the ultimate holiday experience. After relishing the outdoor activities, guests can venture inside for more live music, vendors, and other Christmas activities.
“Every night in December is a holiday,” said FA5 Executive Director Fran Marseille. “We are pleased to bring family-friendly entertainment to Owensboro that will create a little Winter Wonderland on the riverfront.”
FA5 partnered with the Holiday Inn to create the experience, including a photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The first night also features musical performances by the Brescia University Band and Choir as well as the Velvet Bombers.
“Get your list ready to share with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and get your cameras ready for your official picture with the big guy,” Marseille said. “Owensboro’s favorite, the V-Bombs, will share some great music to close the night. Bring the family and start your own party.”
Marseille said the inspiration for the event stems from the City of Owensboro’s efforts with the 12 days of Christmas.
“We started a little last season during the 12 days of Christmas and thought it was a great way to get the community together,” she said. “Friday After 5 is and has always been about the community. We want to be together for more than just 16 weeks out of the summer.”
Adam Gaynor of Matchbox 20 will perform on December 9, while Owensboro local Steve Bridgmon will perform his style of Christian music on December 16. Organizers have also planned for several children’s performances.
