Summer Camps

The City of Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for two Summer Day Camps. Registration is presently only open to returning families, with plans to open enrollment to new families on February 8.

The camps will run from May 23 through August 8 for ages 5 through 12. Five-year-old attendees must be enrolled in kindergarten for the camp, which runs from 7:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m., with early drop-off available at 7 a.m. for an additional $2. The parks department will provide daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

Owensboro Parks and Recreation is a member of the American Camp Association, a national organization that ensures quality camp programs across the nation.

“Our traditional Summer Day Camp is located at the Owensboro Parks & Recreation Administration Center at 1530 McJohnson Avenue,” said recreation supervisor Brittni Klotzback. “During the summer, campers will go swimming twice a week, go on one field trip a week, participate in fun and educational games and activities, and have special guests that will add to their camp experience.”

The department offers an alternative camp experience at the Edge Ice Center.

“It’s for children who love to skate,” she said. “Each morning, campers will get time on the ice with a counselor who is educated in figure skating, hockey, or recreational skating to improve their skills. Campers will play fun structured games and activities in the afternoon, plus swimming and field trips.”

To register for either camp, attendees must pay a $55 non-refundable registration fee and a weekly fee of $100. There is also an $85 per week option at Edge for campers attending three days or fewer per week. The one-time fee of $55 is good for all summer, spring, fall, and holiday break camps.

There are scholarships available to qualifying families and a $5 sibling discount per child per week for each additional sibling from the same household. The $5 discount is not available for those on a scholarship.

For more information about the camps and to register, visit owensboroparks.org. Parents and guardians must complete all forms and submit a copy of the camper’s immunization forms at the time of registration.

“Space is limited, so sign your child up before it’s too late,” Klotzback said.
