Mary Beth Alexander has been named the new Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market Manager just ahead of its 40th season, which kicks off April 15.

“As the new Market Manager, I am excited to welcome returning vendors, new vendors, and the community to the 2023 market season. I am looking forward to getting to know the vendors – both the stories of their farms and businesses and their products,” Alexander said.

Alexander is currently an English teacher at Owensboro High School. Last year she served as a booth representative for Niko’s Bakery, and she has other experience in management, customer service, and other supervisory positions.

Market President George Bittel said he is excited about what will come with Alexander’s leadership.

“We are thrilled to have Mary Beth as a member of our team. We believe she will be a driving force in furthering our mission, and we are excited to see where she leads our organization,” Bittel said.

Going into their 40th season, Merritt Bates Thomas said market officials are proud to continue their mission of bringing fresh produce to the hands of their customers. Over the years, the market has hosted different events to get new community members out and has grown to accept SNAP/EBT, WIC-Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and the Senior-FMNP recipients.

“We want everyone to be able to access good local food, and we want to work to address as many of the barriers to local food access as we can,” she said.

The market is still taking vendor applications through April 1. Officials hope to continue events such as Thursday evening markets and Jam Fest, where vendors sell their homemade jams while music plays throughout the pavilion.

The first market day is scheduled for April 15, with only Saturday morning markets until Memorial Day weekend. They will then add Tuesday morning and Thursday evening markets.
