Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra annual dinner concert set for Monday

The Owensboro Symphony Youth and String Orchestras will perform their annual  dinner concert this Monday at the Blessed Mother Catholic Church Parrish Hall.

Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and includes spaghetti, salad, bread, and dessert. The concert will immediately follow. The church is located at 601 East 23rd Street.

Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased in advance by visiting OwensboroSymphony.org or by calling 270-684-0661.

The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, through its sponsorship of the Youth and String Orchestras program, gives specialized training to more than 100 talented young musicians each year, some of whom go on to join leading American symphony orchestras. Members represent every local and many regional high school and middle school bands and orchestras.

In addition to weekly rehearsals, students are professionally coached by Owensboro Symphony musicians. The Youth Orchestras present three concerts each year.

Dozens of Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra graduates have continued their education with collegiate scholarships in music performance and music education. Many more have continued performing as they pursue other paths in their lives. A number of Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra members have been successful with All-State ensembles, Governor’s School of the Arts, and as featured soloists with the Youth Orchestra as well as in their school ensembles. 

The Youth Orchestra is under the direction of Shaun Baxley, who is also the Orchestra Director for Apollo High School and Burns Middle School. The Youth String Orchestra is under the direction of Wade Wiggins.
