Green River Distilling Co. is releasing the inaugural ROMP single barrel on June 20, in partnership with Visit Owensboro. That’s just in time for the 20th annual ROMP Festival, set for June 21-24, 2023 at Yellow Creek Park

Each year, the Visit Owensboro team invites ROMP attendees to sign a barrel at the visitor tent. At the end of the four-day bluegrass and roots music festival, the barrel is taken to Green River to be filled and aged.

“The number one question we get at our visitor information tent is ‘When can I buy what’s in that barrel?’ We’re so excited that through a collaborative effort with the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum and Green River Distilling Company, the initial barrel is ready to roll and more importantly taste,” said Dave Kirk of Visit Owensboro.

The bourbon is presented at full proof, 110 proof (55% ABV). It will be available at the Green River Distilling Co. gift shop for a retail price of $59.99 on June 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“There’s definitely some musical notes to this incredible bourbon,” Kirk said. “This will be one of those bottles that all bourbon and bluegrass enthusiasts will want to get their hands on.”

Nicole Ebelhar, Manager of Visitor Experience at Green River, said they are excited for this first release and look forward to additional releases in the coming years.

“This is a project we started in 2018 so it’s great to see it come full circle with the release of this delicious, full proof bourbon,” she said.

Chris Joslin, Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum Executive Director, is glad for another tie-in between two Kentucky staples.

“People are drawn to bluegrass music because it’s authentic, unique, and grounded in Kentucky roots and culture. The same can be said for Kentucky bourbon, so we are excited to see our hometown distillery releasing a special edition ROMP bourbon to celebrate 20 years of ROMP Festival in Owensboro,” he said. “It’s just one more reason to fall in love with The Bluegrass Music Capital of the World. Sip, strum, repeat.”

Originally founded in 1885 by J.W. McCulloch, Green River Distilling Co. (DSP-KY-10) is the 10th oldest licensed distillery in Kentucky. Green River is part of Bardstown Bourbon Company, a top-10 distiller in the U.S.
