Lumar Development has broken ground on seven brownstones at 506 West 5th Street, adding more housing options downtown. Developers Robert Whitaker and Steve Hayden had the idea for the project last spring, with the ultimate goal of supporting downtown development.

Each home boasts roughly 2,500 square feet and falls within the $589,000 range, with several opportunities for upgrades. Realtor Matthew Schell said one of the brownstones would be ready by October.

“We’re open now to getting buyers and customizing one of the homes to their liking; they can determine how they want it to look,” Schell said.

Schell said that the development would only enhance the already thriving downtown area.

“We need more people to live downtown,” he said. “Tourists and visitors are great, but we must continue to add residences and offer a place for people to live and socialize. This is just one example of how private development is supporting that mission.”

Lumar has designed each brownstone with a designated space for an elevator. Current buyers can elect to install one now or have the opportunity to add one later.
