The United Way of the Ohio Valley (UWOV) is launching a new initiative to support local nonprofits working to reduce poverty. The initiative focuses on affordable housing, homelessness, and financial stability.
The UWOV will allocate $140,000 from its annual campaign toward “Impact Grants,” which aim to fund smaller, non-partner nonprofits that address these community needs. Grants will be capped at $20,000 per organization, and funds will be available exclusively to nonprofits that are not currently affiliated with the United Way as partner agencies.
Eligible agencies must provide services in one of three areas: affordable housing, homelessness support, or financial stability programs aimed at helping families and individuals achieve lasting self-sufficiency.
“Our goal is to reach more of the community by funding organizations that meet urgent needs but may not currently have a formal partnership with United Way,” said Vikki Embry, Director of Community Impact and Investment.
Nonprofits must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) through a form available here. The LOI deadline is Monday, Oct. 28. Organizations selected through the LOI review process will be invited to submit a formal application.
To qualify for funding, all applicants must be recognized by the IRS as 501(c)(3) charitable organizations.
For more information about the grant process, contact Embry at (270) 684-0668, ext. 25, or by email at [email protected].
The UWOV is also encouraging donations to help fund this poverty-reduction effort. Individuals or businesses interested in contributing can visit the organization’s website at www.uwov.org. Businesses looking to run employee pledge campaigns can reach out to Savannah Gatton, Director of Resource Development, at (270) 684-0668, ext. 28.
“We believe these Impact Grants will provide meaningful support to organizations working on the front lines of poverty reduction,” Embry said.
