On Tuesday evening, Aug 28, Daviess County High School is hosting a “County to College” information session for members of the Class of 2019 and their families.

The event will run from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. including a free pizza dinner and an ice cream sundae bar, provided by the DCHS Family Resource Center.

DCHS College and Career Readiness Coach, Trey Pippin, said the program is intended “to give seniors and their families the information for how to prepare for what comes next.”

The event was created three years ago, to equip parents to prepare their seniors to go off to college and answer any questions they may have about applying to college, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), scholarships, submitting transcripts and preparing for the ACT assessment.

The lobby and auditorium area will host representatives from: Owensboro Community and Technical College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Brescia University, Western Kentucky University / Owensboro Campus, the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, Murray State University, Eastern Kentucky University, the University of Southern Indiana, the U.S. Army, and the National Guard.

Those in attendance will also be eligible for door prizes, including a dorm-size refrigerator donated by the DCHS Youth Services Center.

“We are excited to celebrate the beginning of senior year with the Class of 2019 and their families, but it is also important to realize how quickly this year will go by,” said DCHS guidance counselor Kelly Powers. “This event is part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students to succeed beyond graduation. We are looking forward to providing important information and resources to help students and families with the college application and financial aid process.”

All DCHS seniors and their families are invited to attend. For more information, contact guidance counselor Kelly Powers at 270-852-7305 or [email protected] or Trey Pippin, DCHS College and Career Readiness Coach, at [email protected] .
