All three area school districts were back in session Wednesday. Each district, as well as each school, had their own way of welcoming students back and preparing them for the coming year. Owensboro Times was there to cover just a few of those special moments.
Gentlemen from around the community lined up to greet students from Estes Elementary, including members of the Kentucky Wesleyan Football team, Mayor Tom Watson, first responders and business owners.
Students received high fives, cheers, and rounds of applause as they entered the building. The warm welcome appeared to have a huge impact on the men present as well.
Owensboro Catholic’s K-3 Campus was illuminated with red and blue lights as the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department lined the parent drop-off entrance with deputies. Parents took candid shots of their children under the campus sign before dropping them off to an inspirational welcome.
Highland Elementary was glowing with excitement as students started their day off in the gymnasium with a surprise glow party. Highland principal, Leslie Peveler said it was important that she and her staff, “create magic and wonder for the first day of school.”
