As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, with the winter holidays to follow soon thereafter, Kentucky Wesleyan College will participate in Giving Tuesday for the fourth consecutive year on Nov. 27. The college has set the bar high, hoping to raise $153,000 for the 2018 year. By raising that $153,000, KWC will surpass $600,000 in its four-year running total for the Giving Tuesday event.

Giving Tuesday has become a Kentucky Wesleyan signature, according to Eddie Kenny, Interim Vice President of Advancement at Kentucky Wesleyan College. The event itself is a global day of giving that encourages philanthropy and praises generosity on a worldwide scale.

“It is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities, with a focus on participation rather than how much a person is able to give,” Kenny writes in a Kentucky Wesleyan news release.

Giving Tuesday will coincide with The Wesleyan Way Day of Service, which takes place the day before on Nov. 26. As both days share a theme of giving to others, the Kentucky Wesleyan community has used The Wesleyan Way Day of Service to volunteer 909 hours of community service since 2015.

“These two days have become part of who we are as a Wesleyan family and community,” said President Barton D. Darrell. “The commitment of our students, faculty, staff and alumni to support service initiatives on our Wesleyan Way Day of Service is a reminder of our commitment to our communities near and far. We are then fortunate enough to witness the generosity of those who support our great institution through participation on Giving Tuesday, and are so incredibly thankful”
