Samantha Bowen, Ashley Gilmore, Kaleb Sexton, Garrett Rodgers and Lukas Johnson worked diligently for four weeks prior to the exam, which they completed and passed on Dec. 14. They are the first students in the DCPS district to take and pass this exam.

“Being Google certified is a step in the right direction for our students to gain 21st-century skills that make them highly sought-after in the workplace and college,” said Renfrow, who has also earned the certification. “Being Google certified has helped me to make my classroom digitized and more streamlined, allowing students the ability to get to assignments when they have time and expanding the classroom outside of the traditional four walls. I am proud of these kids for taking this exam and stepping out of their comfort zones. I have had many other students certify in HTML and Web Development but this was the first time we attempted Google. It won’t be the last.”

DCPS technology integration specialist Aaron Yeiser said, “Our district is thrilled to see the successful results of the hard work that these students contributed to the exam challenge. It is not an easy test. These students are an inspiration to teachers in our district who are working towards the same achievement. Samantha, Ashley, Kaleb, Garrett and Lukas join a group of nearly 50 DCPS faculty, staff and administrators who hold the Level I status.”
