Actor and author Greg Sestero is screening his two latest films Best F[r]iends, Vol. 1 & Vol 2 on Jan. 26 in Owensboro. The movies, which star Sestero and Tommy Wiseau are American thrillers, and will be shown at 6 p.m. in Owensboro Community and Technical College’s Blandford Hall.
A Q&A and meet and greet will follow the screenings.
Wesley Johnson, library associate at the DCPL, said the library has a great relationship with Sestero and that’s one reason they wanted to host the film screening.
“After the release of his book, The Disaster Artist, we had him out to talk about his friendship with Tommy Wiseau and the incredibly intriguing “making of” story behind their first film, The Room,” he said. “Eventually The Disaster Artist was turned into a Golden Globe award-winning, Academy Award-nominated film by James Franco and Seth Rogen.”
Johnson said the film will be entertaining and informative to any aspiring filmmakers and writers in the audience.
“To me, a library is a cultural hub,” Johnson said. “It’s important for us to host a variety of events for the public we serve. The Room is quite a cultural phenomenon and Greg’s previous appearances have been quite well-received. When I found out he wrote a film that he and Tommy would co-star in, I knew it was something we should book.”
This will be Owensboro’s first chance to watch the film on the big screen and hear from Sestero about how it was made.
Johnson said there are still plenty of tickets available at tinyurl.com/BestFriendsDCPL. He said he feels like anyone who appreciates quirky indie films, filmmaking and writing will enjoy the event.
According to the film’s website, the movie is “based on a series of true-to-life anecdotes sourced from Greg and Tommy’s two decades of shared experiences, BEST F(R)IENDS is a unique two-volume cinematic saga that interweaves mystery, intrigue, and more than a few dark laughs into the long-awaited reunion of THE ROOM’s cult icons. Step into this surrealist tale and learn a lesson about friendship and loyalty.”
