Owensboro Public Schools released a statement announcing plans to include 8th grade at the new iMiddle next year. Previously, OPS said only 6th and 7th grades would be included in iMiddle’s first year. However, OPS determined that enough space will be available at iMiddle for 8th grade as well.

Applications are now being accepted from current 7th graders wishing to attend iMiddle next school year as 8th graders. The deadline to apply is Jan. 18.

OPS will hold a special parent info night for parents and guardians of current 7th grade students. Those interested can apply at http://bit.ly/iMiddleApplication

Jared Revlett, Public Information Officer for OPS, said a few things went into the decision to include 8th grade for iMiddle next year.

“Our maintenance director and Mark Moore [upcoming iMiddle principal] met over the break and determined that space would be available to incorporate the 8th grade into iMiddle a year earlier than anticipated,” Revlett said. “We also had some interest from 7th grade students and their families, so it is exciting to be able to offer this opportunity to all middle school students beginning next year.”
