UPDATE: According to Owensboro Police Department Information Officer Andrew Boggess, the original call came in as a burglary, but when officers arrived in the area the suspect fled on foot.

While there was no threat made, both Apollo and Heritage Park High Schools were placed on lockout as a precautionary measure.

The lockout has been lifted. Although the suspect has not been located, he is no longer believed to be in the area.

UPDATE: At 1:20 p.m., a One Call was made to Apollo families, followed by an email, notifying them that the lockout had been lifted.

UPDATE: Shortly after 1 p.m., an email was sent to Apollo High School families by AHS Principal Rick Lasley.

“Just making you aware, that OPD had advised schools in the Tamarack Area to go on Lockout Mode due to their search of a man that was unarmed,” the email read. “Lockout is a procedure we initiate to have adults at all entrances but carry on our day as normal within school. Nobody is allowed to leave and nobody is allowed in the building unless ID’d by Admin. We are remaining on this Lockout Mode while OPD is searching. This is NOT related to events already communicated about this week. We will keep you posted.”

Owensboro Times confirmed with Daviess County Public Information Officer Lora Wimsatt that Apollo High School is under a lockout after Owensboro Police Department notified them that they were pursuing a burglary suspect in the area.
