For over 20 years, Estes Childcare Director Angela Dean has run the Estes Child Care Program during the summer. Over 40 kids enroll annually, but this year, she tried something different — she posted the flyer on Facebook and asked people to share.

And with just that post, the overwhelming response by parents and guardians interested in the program filled it in the first week.

Kindergarten through outgoing fifth-grade students from either district are accepted into the program that provides fun, safe and engaging activities to children of working parents, Dean said. Daily program activities include science projects, dance and art.

Dean said that she and her state-licensed staff provide the children experiences in town and out of town that include swimming, visiting local parks, bowling in town and field trips to the Louisville Zoo and to Nashville’s Adventure Science Center.

The program has a state licensed fee for service and the program is $80 per week per child, plus a one-time $10 enrollment fee. State child care assistance is accepted as well.

Because the program is state-licensed, the student-to-staff ratio does not allow her to accept more students at this time, but Dean said for interested parents to contact her at Estes, 270-686-1118, and she will add names to a waitlist.

The program is open May 28 through July 26 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
