The Kentucky Science Center’s signature School’s Out Science Camp is returning to the Owensboro Museum of Science and History for a fourth summer, July 22-26.

This year, the Kentucky Science Center will offer 12 weeks of summer camps in Warren, Daviess, Bullitt, Woodford and Henderson Counties, as well as 10 full weeks of camp in their flagship location in Louisville.

The Kentucky Science Center also offers Play2Go, a traveling version of their first-floor exhibit that takes up three-month residencies at partner libraries and helps bring fresh content and ideas to libraries and their staff. This exhibit visited McLean County Public Library in December 2018.

According to Kentucky Science Center Senior Manager of Marketing, Communication and Membership, Ben Goldenberg, the Science Center does not want science to be contained to a lab and they are dedicated to encouraging everyone to “do science everywhere.”

“We believe that science is all around us and can be engaging, educational and entertaining,” Goldenberg said. “Science should be hands-on, messy, but, most of all, fun. Every major breakthrough in history happened because of scientific experimentation. By helping to develop the next generation of scientists, we are helping to ensure that we continue to move forward as a society.”

The following grade-level camp offerings will be available at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History July 22-26.

LEGO IMAGINEERS / 1st-2nd Grades

Put your imagination to the test as you build, design and engineer using these favorite construction tools — LEGOS.

MASTERS OF DISASTERS / 3rd-4th Grades

Students will explore, through experimentation and simulation, the most dangerous phenomena that nature has to offer; the students will learn about their causes, their prevention and how we have adapted to them.

AMUSEMENT PARK PHYSICS / 5th-6th Grades

Zooming coasters and whirling wheels, investigate the physics behind some science-defying amusement park rides.

Camp Times are 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with drop-off from  8 – 9 a.m. and pick-up from 4 – 5 p.m.

The cost of the camp is $175 for the week. OMSH members receive a 10 percent discount.
