Schools to offer crisis counseling after Whitesville shooting

In light of the shooting that occurred in Whitesville over the weekend, both Owensboro Public Schools and Daviess County Public Schools will offer crisis counseling Tuesday for any student that needs assistance.

According to OPS Public Information Officer Jared Revlett, Owensboro High School crisis counselors will be available for any OPS student seeking support from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Bus passes are available for those who need transportation. He said for any student that is unable to come to the session at OHS, but would like to speak to a counselor, are encouraged to call 270-686-1000 to set up a call back from one of our counselors.

The DCPS crisis team will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Apollo High School to speak with any Apollo, Daviess County or Heritage Park High School student who needs support and assistance in dealing with the tragic events of this past weekend. Students may enter through the front door at AHS anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. Tuesday to speak with counselors.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has not made any arrests in the case.

Jasper Brown, 18, and Amarius Winstead, 16, both from Owensboro, died after being shot at a party in the 8200 block of Crisp Road.

Tyler Glover, 19, from Owensboro, was treated for a gunshot wound at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

DCSO is still seeking information about the shooting.
