Brescia University and Owensboro Community & Technical College announced a new, seamless transfer agreement that will be implemented for OCTC students who earn an associate degree in applied science. According to officials from both schools, this transfer program will take off immediately, and applicable students will be able to transfer to Brescia by next semester.

This seamless transfer agreement that will allow students from, not only OCTC, but graduates from the whole Kentucky Community & Technical College system to earn a four-year degree from Brescia University as “seamlessly as possible.”

“We have developed some very strong partnerships over the years and, while Brescia University is a university and Owensboro Community & Technical College is a technical college, we share something that is very central — and that is, we’re here to create a better life for our students and our community,” said OCTC President Scott Williams.

Brescia University President Fr. Larry Hostetter said the new transfer agreement will coincide with existing transfer agreements made between Brescia and OCTC. Students who graduate with an associate of arts or science have already been part of the seamless transfer agreement.

“Over the years, our relationship with OCTC has become stronger,” Hostetter said. “When I speak to prospective students, I tell them, ‘Their agenda is our agenda.’ We all want the best for our students.”

This transfer program extends an already existing transfer agreement that applies to those at OCTC with associate degrees in arts and/or science.

“What I hope is, this is not just an agreement of words, but that we really offer something significant to the graduates of OCTC that demonstrates to them our commitment to their ultimate success in getting that four-year degree,” Hostetter said.

The seamless transfer will provide maximized transfer credits, one-on-one advising that begins at OCTC and continues afterward, tutoring opportunities and continuation of small class sizes with active learning environments and innovative technology.

“We are very pleased to have this agreement in place, starting today and effective immediately,” said Veena Sallan, OCTC vice president of academic affairs. “You all are opening doors for the students to move forward on their career ladder.”
