The Daviess County and Owensboro public schools districts are teaming up to invite the community to support students as they prepare for the start of a new school year. The fourth annual “Stuff the Bus” event is scheduled for Aug. 7.

School buses from both districts will be located in the parking lots of the two local Walmart stores to accept donations of school supplies that go directly to students. Supplies may be purchased at any store.

The buses will be parked at 5031 Frederica St. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at 3151 KY 54 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Family Resource/Youth Service Center representatives from both districts will be on site to collect the donations and load the buses. All proper health regulations including masks will be observed throughout the day to keep everyone safe from the spread of COVID-19.

Lists of school supplies recommended for various grade levels will be available inside both stores and “wish lists” will be available at the buses, but supplies of all kinds are welcome. Items that would help a local child begin the school year ready to learn include:

  • Paper (loose leaf and notebooks)
  • Scissors
  • Pencils, pens, highlighters, crayons
  • Backpacks
  • School glue
  • Rulers
  • Folders and binders
  • Calculators

Last year, the community donated school supplies valued at more than $19,000 and contributed more than $1,300 in cash donations.
