Owensboro Community & Technical College fall classes will begin as scheduled on Aug. 17. Classes are available in-person, online, or as a hybrid of both.

“Healthy at OCTC” plans are in place to ensure that students and employees will be safe and healthy.

Classes with face-to-face meetings will find that OCTC campuses look and feel different with the new Healthy at OCTC protocols. Face coverings are required, access is limited, and designated entry and exit points control flow to minimize incidental contact. In addition, new sanitizing protocols, daily healthy check-ins, and physical distancing are mandatory.

OCTC has been practicing these requirements during the summer sessions and are prepared for the fall semester — and whatever may come after that.

“I am extremely pleased with how the students and faculty have adapted to the new Healthy at OCTC protocols,” said Jeff Hendricks, OCTC’s Healthy at Work Officer. “The summer semester was a good way to test our new normal and make some adjustments to ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone.”

All classes meeting on campus will have a strong online or remote instruction element, so if classes must move online everyone will be well prepared.

“We have learned that the students are a vital part of this plan and its successful implementation,” said Scott Williams, OCTC President. “They must understand that it is imperative to be completely forthright during the healthy check-ins daily. There is no penalty for being honest about a health situation, but there are penalties for making false statements, beyond closing a building or disrupting other students’ class schedules. We want to keep everyone safe and healthy and it takes all of us working together and holding each other accountable.”
