Trinity High School is holding a Final Mass with a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Friday, and Owensboro Public Schools are planning to hold graduations the last week of July.

Meanwhile, Daviess County Public Schools are surveying the DCPS Class of 2020 and their families to determine if there is enough interest for an in-person ceremony. DCPS has already held a diploma distribution for all three member high schools.

TRINITY

Trinity is moving forward with plans to hold an in-person ceremony Friday at the Horn Center in Whitesville. They will begin with a Final Mass for seniors, followed by a recognition for graduates. The event begins at 7 p.m.

The ceremony will adhere to local and state health guidelines.

OWENSBORO PUBLIC SCHOOLS

All three OPS high schools are set to hold in-person ceremonies the final weekend of July.

  • Owensboro High School — 8 p.m. July 24 at Rash Stadium (rain dates: July 25 and 26)
  • Owensboro Innovation Academy — 2 p.m. July 26 at RiverPark Center
  • Emerson Academy — 5 p.m. July 26 at RiverPark Center

Details on logistics and health guidelines will be released in the coming days as OPS works through the plan with local health officials, and that information will be communicated with families as soon as possible.

DAVIESS COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Apollo, Daviess County and Heritage Park high schools distributed diplomas to graduating seniors at drive-thru ceremonies in May. The survey will determine whether there is sufficient interest in students returning for an in-person ceremony. If one-third or more of the senior families are interested, ceremonies will be held on the following schedule:

  • Daviess County High School — 8:30 p.m. July 28 at DCHS football stadium (rain date: July 30)
  • Heritage Park High School – 8:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at AHS football stadium (rain date: Aug. 5)
  • Apollo High School – 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at AHS football stadium (rain date: Aug. 7)

Survey links are being emailed to families. Families are asked to respond by 5 p.m. Monday.

The programs are expected to last no more than one hour. Each senior will be asked to limit the number of guests in attendance. This number will be communicated to families based on survey results to ensure the ability to maintain safe physical distancing in stadiums.

Everyone in attendance will be required to wear a face covering while arriving and leaving the facility. Family members may remove masks during the ceremony but graduates will be required to wear a mask throughout the program. Individuals who are experiencing symptoms of illness should not attend.

In order for students to participate in the graduation ceremony, they will be required to wear their mask along with their cap and gown. Graduates will receive a certificate acknowledging their achievements as a member of the Class of 2020. Names of all students in attendance will be announced as the seniors receive these certificates.
