The Foundation for DCPS, which assists Daviess County Public School students and staff, announced the acceptance of a $12,000 donation in memory of Allen R. McKelvey from the McKelvey Family Foundation.
“During this pandemic, community support for the educational needs of students is paramount,” said a spokesperson for the McKelvey Family Foundation. “Allen was the epitome of kindness and generosity; he would be honored we are remembering him by helping teachers and students.”
According to a release, DCPS has asked for the funds to be used to financially assist teachers as they work toward achieving the next level in their educational training and/or to help alleviate the technological equity gap for students struggling with the ability to afford computers or internet access.
“I am constantly in awe at the willingness of our community to invest in education,” said Vicki Quisenberry, Executive Director of the Foundation for DCPS. “We truly value partners like the McKelvey Family Foundation and their belief in our mission of improving educational opportunities for students and teachers.”
DCPS Superintendent Matt Robbins said they are grateful to receive the generous contribution from the McKelvey family.
“This gift helps us in our continued effort to provide the best education possible to our students in Daviess County,” he said. “We are incredibly blessed to live in a community that truly cares and demonstrates this sentiment by giving generously to help our children and youth.”
Quisenberry said she encourages individuals, families and businesses who wish to help the district offset budget deficits and student need intensified by COVID-19 and non-traditional instruction to contact her.
