Nearly $10,000 worth of school supply and monetary donations was raised Friday during the 4th Annual Stuff the Bus hosted by the Owensboro and Daviess County public school districts.

The school supplies given by the community totaled $8,044, while an additional $1,373 was raised through monetary donations. The supplies and money will be split between the two districts evenly.

“We put it on because the supplies are needed,” said Shannon Burke, Family Resource Center Coordinator at Cravens Elementary School. “Especially this year, families are hurting after COVID-19. We need the supplies in the classrooms. COVID has put such a strain for our families and the community. When the community comes out and does tithing like this, it really helps lessen that.”

Donations included paper and notebooks, scissors, pencils, crayons, backpacks, glue, rulers, folders and binders, and calculators. Family Resource/Youth Service Center representatives from both districts were on-site to collect the donations and load the buses. All proper health regulations including masks were observed throughout the day.

“The kids come to school and don’t necessarily have supplies or any way to get them, so we are able to do that for them,” said Lisa Yeiser, Family Resource Center Coordinator at Southern Oaks Elementary School. “The teachers are very excited because of that. It’s very, very helpful.”
