The Foundation for DCPS, which assists Daviess County Public School students and staff, announced Wednesday the acceptance of a digital baby grand piano on behalf of Daviess County Middle School.

For as long as she can remember, Lois Wiseman has enjoyed listening to and playing music and organizing entertainment for people. She realized at an early age she could pick up just about any instrument and play by ear. From organizing USO shows in Okinawa and Vietnam in the 1950s to writing books, she has delighted in providing entertainment.

Her late husband Harold Wiseman was also a musician. When he developed Alzheimer’s, Lois purchased a baby grand piano for him, as creating music was comforting.

Vicki Quisenberry, Executive Director of the Foundation for DCPS, said Wiseman and her daughter Laurie Thomas specifically asked if she could donate the piano to students at the new Daviess County Middle School.

“Rebecca Volk (Choral and Theatre Director at Daviess County Middle School) and I visited Ms. Lois expecting to find a traditional baby grand and prepared to let her down gently that we could not accept it,” Alward said. “Imagine our delight when we realized the piano was a small digital. Ms. Lois’s Roland baby grand was perfect.”

DCPS Superintendent Matt Robbins said they were grateful to receive the generous contribution.

“This gift helps us in our continued effort to provide superb musical education to our students in Daviess County,” he said. “We are incredibly blessed to live in a community that truly cares and demonstrates this sentiment by giving generously towards the cause of helping our children and youth.”
