Taleno takes 2nd for Best Comedy or Drama in Student Audio Production

Lain Taleno, a junior communication arts major at Kentucky Wesleyan College, recently won second place for Best Comedy or Drama in Student Audio Production in the Broadcast Education Association’s “2021 Festival of Media Arts.”

Working with the school’s WKWC 90.3 FM station, Taleno produced and directed a radio broadcast production of “Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of the Tolling Bell” for Halloween 2020.

Winners were showcased during a virtual awards ceremony on March 1, 2021.

“The entire Communications Department is especially proud of Lain for the hard work and dedication it took to produce such a radio production,” said Derik Hancock, WKWC 90.3 manager and KWC instructor of communications. “I walked him through the process of audio production, and he produced a professional product we can all be proud of. I’m particularly proud of my students for the work they do for WKWC.”

Taleno directed and produced the piece with guidance from Hancock. Cast included Ricky Simpson as Dr. Watson, Taleno as Sherlock Holmes, Logan Reed as Gillian, KWC vice president of student affairs Rebecca McQueen-Ruark as Mrs. Mitchol, Macy Dame as Mrs. Lakeland/Mary, Nathanial Varney as Tom Lakeland, and Hancock as the announcer/bell.

KWC’s Isaiah Calalang was nominated in the PSA, Promo or Commercial category for his production of the “Crime Stoppers Tip of the Week” for the Owensboro Police Department. Calalang and Wish Read, both students from Las Vegas, were nominated in Specialty Program & Podcasts.
