Charles Broughton has been named the new director of student services for Daviess County Public Schools.

“I am looking forward to this new challenge and the opportunity to further work with other Central Office leadership to best serve our students, staff and schools,” Broughton said.

Broughton replaces Damon Fleming, who has accepted a position as assistant superintendent of Hopkins County Public Schools.

Broughton’s experience in Daviess County Public Schools includes serving as the director of secondary schools since 2016, and before that he served as principal of Apollo High School from 2010-2016.

He began his education career as a teacher at Daviess County High School in 1997 and served as assistant principal at Hancock County High School before returning to DCPS in 2010.

In his new position, Broughton’s primary responsibilities will be to coordinate the district’s compliance with enrollment and attendance laws, serve as custodian for all student data and records, and coordinate the electronic Student Information System. Broughton will also work with principals, teachers and parents/guardians in response to attendance and social/behavioral concerns — like potential truancy and dropout issues and implementation of steps to mitigate those issues.

Superintendent Matt Robbins said Broughton’s background and experience were an “outstanding” fit for this role.

“Charley has demonstrated high levels of success and achievement throughout his career and will bring that same commitment to excellence to this key position,” Robbins said.
