The Daviess County and Owensboro public school districts are teaming up to invite the community to support local students as they prepare for the start of a new school year. The fifth annual “Stuff the Bus” event is scheduled for Thursday.

School buses from both districts will be located in the parking lots of the two local Walmart stores to accept donations of school supplies that go directly to students. Supplies may be purchased at any store but will be collected at the two Owensboro Walmart locations.

The buses will be parked at 5031 Frederica St. and at 3151 KY 54 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Family Resource/Youth Service Center representatives from both districts will be on site to collect the donations and load the buses.

Lists of requested school supplies will be available, but donations of all kinds are welcome. Items that would help a local child begin the school year ready to learn include:

  • Paper (loose leaf and notebooks)
  • Scissors
  • Pencils, pens, highlighters, crayons
  • Backpacks
  • School glue
  • Rulers
  • Folders and binders
  • Calculators

Last year, the community donated school supplies valued at more than $8,000 and contributed more than $1,370 in cash donations.
