Staff at Daviess County Public Schools will be getting $1,500 in supplemental pay spread out over two payments this academic year.

The DCPS Board of Education unanimously approved the decision Tuesday during a luncheon held at Burns Middle School.

DCPS Director of Finance Sara Harley said that only employees with a contract qualify for the supplement, meaning substitutes are not eligible. She said the district is allowed to use ESSER funds to supplement pay for employees.

The first $750 payment will come the first week of November, with the second coming in Spring 2021.

“Our staff has been working hard to ensure the safety of our students,” Harley said. “This is compensation for extra duties our staff has been performing to keep our students safe and in the classroom.”

In other business, Director of Student Services Charles Broughton provided an enrollment report. He said there was a district-wide enrollment of 10,884 students, including 51 who were enrolled virtually.

Broughton said that broke down as 4,908 enrolled in elementary schools, 2,462 in middle schools, and 3,514 in high schools.

The board also heard several change orders and updates on the renovation of Apollo High School and the construction of the new Daviess County Middle School.

The board also considered for approval emergency certification of two teachers, the 2021-22 final working budget, and a handful of other annual items requiring their approval.

The board will vote on all those items at 4:30 p.m. Thursday during their regular meeting at the Central Office (1622 Southeastern Pkwy.)
