Daviess County High School Navy JROTC cadets will travel to the LST-325 in Evansville today as part of a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day.

The gangway will open at 9 a.m. with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. A full remembrance ceremony will take place, including the laying of a wreath on the Ohio River and the playing of “Taps.” Afterward, about 40 DCHS JROTC cadets will tour the LST-325, which is docked at 610 NW Riverside Drive.

The USS LST-325 is a decommissioned tank landing ship of the U.S. Navy. It is one of only two World War II LSTs to be preserved in the United States and serves as a museum and memorial to those who served their country aboard LSTs. National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is dedicated to the memory of the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941.
