Owensboro native Michele Howard recently opened Bluegrass Educational Services and Tutoring (B.E.S.T.), providing focused learning for children and young adults. Howard obtained a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at Capella University and has experience teaching individuals of varying ages and ability levels.

With more than 10 years of experience helping struggling learners, Howard addresses learning challenges by presenting learning strategies and building strategies for the future. She is there to help those learners who struggle to “get back on track in their educational setting.”

Howard initially had aspirations to become a counseling psychologist, but the needs of one of her children quickly transitioned her interest to educational psychology. She recognized a growing demand for tutoring in the area and decided to jump on the opportunity.

“My husband is in the military, and we had just returned to Owensboro from Germany. My daughter was struggling educationally, which motivated me to transition to educational psychology,” Howard said. “We were searching for tutoring options in the area but struggled to find any. I knew I had the knowledge to service her and our community as well.”

Howard’s services at B.E.S.T range from K-12 subject matter and college core curriculum to ACT and SAT prep. She also offers services tailored for students struggling with reading or presented with learning and behavioral challenges that impede learning in a traditional classroom.

Howard also specializes in the Barton Reading and Spelling System, a strategy for adding struggling readers to build phonics awareness and strengthen reading and spelling skills. She primarily offers one-on-one sessions, and also offers summer sessions to avoid the “summer slide” or regression caused by a lack of grade-level equivalency.

“At B.E.S.T, it is important to us to provide the best environment and education services to each student,” Howard said. “I work with students one-on-one to best meet the needs of the individual student. Parents and caregivers are welcome to stay and observe the educational gains made by their children.”

Detailed pricing and additional information are available on the B.E.S.T. website here. Contact Howard by phone at 270-903-9315 or email at [email protected] with questions or schedule an initial appointment.
